That ability is given to contest setters. (The policy seems a bit strange to me, but I haven't seen it being abused.) Maybe your account got modified somehow. Do you see "add contest" on the menu on the left side of pages that wasn't there before? Or maybe there is some other reason. And if it happened to all problem setters, that could be undesirable.
I remember tjandra got this permission too, some months before I was EBM ; as far I know it was a "bug", corrected.
I think only admins have the list of contest setters, and EBmembers.
They are making some cleaning up, this can be part of the answer...
Beside that "features", I'm really glad to see numerix again. This delete all disappointments that we are encountered.
Of course it can be used in such situations. We're all logical here, I think. You can keep doing that. In fact, I'm going to revisit all problems on main SPOJ (veeeeery slowly) when I finish with those on SPOJPL and remove all comments that are useless (here are some examples: http://www.spoj.com/problems/CYCLOPS/#faq1 http://www.spoj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22445)
So I'm grateful for every comment you delete.
In the future, EB members will still be able to do such a thing, but allowing all CSs might be overused.
